History
The University you know today has a rich history. Back in 1952, several engineering schools from five different provinces joined forces to create the South China Institute of Technology.
Fast forward to 2000, this institute merged with two other institutions: a medical college and a technology institute. To reflect this exciting new chapter, the English name of the university changed a few times.
From Nanhua University to University of South China, it’s current name.

USC is a top public university in China, focused on research and innovation. It’s like a learning lab, overseen directly by China’s Ministry of Education.
USC has been around for over 60 years! It’s a public university with a strong focus on both education and research. They have over 2,500 Teachers & 37,000 Students, offering programs from undergraduate degrees to Ph.D.s.
Located in the historic city of Hengyang, USC covers over 200 hectares and includes 21 colleges and schools, along with several hospitals for practical learning.
Research
USC doesn’t just give their students bookish knowledge. They’re actively involved in research projects. This includes major national initiatives like the “863” and “973” Plans, along with reputable programs from the National Natural Science Foundation and the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Their dedication to research has led to impressive results, 12 National Science and Technology Awards and over 300 Awards at the provincial and ministerial levels. That’s a lot of recognition for their innovative work.
